What is Reiki?
What is reiki and how does it work?
The concept of humans as energetic beings can seem a bit “out there”, but deep down it’s something that we all inherently know and feel. We talk about our energy, other people’s energy, and how it affects us; we sometimes describe getting a good or bad vibe from someone. We can sense a heavy atmosphere when we walk into a room where something has just happened. We feel uplifted in crowds, at concerts, hearing live music, being in nature…
We know what it is to feel energy shifts, and we know how it affects us.
How Does Reiki Work?
Our aura is our energy field: this is where we take energy in from the outside world, and where we project our own energy out. Our chakras are our energy centres: this is where we break down the energy from the outside world, and the energy inside us. Our meridians are our energy pathways: this is how that energy gets distributed around our bodies.
Reiki works with our energy chakras, to help us break down the energy that we produce and absorb. Some energy is there to serve our highest good; some of it is not serving us.
Reiki helps us draw in the type of energy that will serve us, and it lets us release the energy that isn’t serving us.
Energy blocks can lead to physical as well as emotional pain. Holding on to negative energy can literally cause us to hurt. Unblocking our chakras can help us to release blocked energy, blocked emotions, and pain. So if you balance your energy on the inside, you’re more able to deal with the outside world.
What is a Reiki Session Like?
A reiki session is a relaxed and calming experience. There’s nothing you need to do other than lie down, get comfortable under a blanket, and allow me to direct reiki energy to you. Reiki energy is all around us, and we all have access to it. All I’m doing during a session is simply channelling that energy directly to you so your body can draw it in and use it however it is needed. A reiki treatment will help you to shift and clear stagnant energy, and make way for new, healing energy to flow in.
Each session brings a different experience, depending on what’s going on in your body and mind at that time. And there’s no need to worry about whether it will “work” for you; your body knows best and it draws the energy in to help you – no matter what your thinking mind may or may not believe about the process!
My reiki appointments are approximately 90 minutes, which allows time for the 1 hour treatment plus consultation and follow up. I have a beautiful space in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire, for treatments. I can also do home visits locally in Aberdeenshire by arrangement.
What is Distance Reiki?
If you’re open to the concept of energy healing, it’s not too much of a stretch to accept that reiki can be performed by distance. Because energy transcends time and distance. Intention and awareness is everything. Think about times when you pick up on energy even though you are not face to face with someone or in real time: watching a movie, speaking on the phone, reading a message…
Distance reiki is a very relaxing and convenient treatment, since you don’t have to leave your own home. You find yourself a quiet, comfortable place where you can lie down and not be disturbed, and I connect with you at that time and perform your healing. It’s a truly amazing experience and the more I do it, the more it amazes me!
I’m a Level 2 qualified reiki practitioner, a member of The Reiki Association, and CHNC registered for reiki.
Not surprisingly given the nature of reiki healing, people tend to be drawn to practitioners they resonate with and get a good vibe from. Inverurie: Monday – Friday 10am, 1.30pm and 7.30pm

Monday – Friday 9.30am, 11.30am, 1.30pm and 8pm
